ASA Championships arrival info & volunteers needed

We are so excited for our ASA Championship Meet on Wednesday morning! We will have a short meeting tonight at 7:00 pm at the pool pavilion to go over this info and answer any questions you have. Here is the information you’ve been waiting for:

Location and Parking:

  • The GA Tech Aquatics Center is housed in the Campus Recreation Center which is located at 750 Ferst Drive, Atlanta, GA 30332 on the West side of the GA Tech campus.
  • Directions from the North: Travel South on I-75/85. Exit at North Avenue. Turn right on to Tech Parkway. Follow Tech Parkway to Regents Drive (2nd light) and turn right. Turn left at the stop sign onto Ferst Drive. The Campus Recreation Center will be on your left.
  • Parking: Pre-paid parking will be available in the W10 parking deck that is adjacent to the front entrance of the CRC. Parking in that deck will be via PREPAID PARKING ONLY, you cannot pay at arrival. To purchase parking please visit https://gatech.parkmobile.io/events Parking costs will be between $12-15. This is the deck attached to the building. For people who did not prepay for parking will have to use W23 lot located at 990 State St.. There may also be limited parking across the street from the CRC and is located at 355 Ferst Drive, Atlanta, GA 30318. Those decks are a short walk to the building from there. A map of the area can be found at Georgia Tech General Parking Map and ASA Parking Diagram and Map.
  • Arrival: We will meet as a team on the lawn in front of the entrance by 7:30am. Swimmers need to check in with Kris Chatfield when they arrive. We need to make sure we have everyone, as our team is required to enter together. Our entrance time is 7:50 am. You will not be allowed to enter the building if you are late unless a coach or council member escorts you in, so please call or text Julie at 706-206-3106 if you are running late. Our warm-up time is 8:20-8:40 in the girls pool lanes 1-5.
  • All swimmers, other than those driving themselves, must have a parent/designated adult on site that they can report to in case of emergency.
  • Leaving the meet: Please make sure a coach or Julie or Kris know that you are leaving with your child. Many families like to meet up for a late lunch after the meet, so keep that option in mind as you plan your day.

Pool Seating Information:

  • Swimmers, coaches and volunteers will sit in our assigned section (102). Spectators can sit in sections 103-108 and 204-209 (there will not be enough room in our team seating area for all parents/spectators).
  • The girls and boys swim in separate pools. The boys pool is closest to the big scoreboard. The girls pool is in between the boys pool and the diving well. The lanes are numbered 0-9 with lane 0 being closest to the windows and lane 9 closest to the stands.

Psych Sheet:

Order of Events:

  • The order of events is VERY different from what we are used to. We’d strongly recommend printing a copy of this ASA Divisional Order of Events for your use at the meet. Events will keep their same event numbers, but will not occur in that order. 6 & Unders and Relays are all at the beginning of the meet.
  • PLEASE NOTE – 6 & Unders can plan to leave the Twin Lakes swimmer seating area with their parent/designated adult after the swimming of the 6 & Under backstroke.

Volunteer Needs:

  • ASA requires each team to fill volunteer spots. We need the following volunteers:
    • Timers for girls pool (2-1st shift, 2-2nd shift)
    • Timers for boys pool (2-1st shift, 2-2nd shift)
    • Girls Bullpen (on deck lining up all teams) (1 for each shift)
    • Boys Bullpen (on deck lining up all teams) (1 for each shift)
  • We MUST fill all these positions, so please volunteer to help out for part of the time. Sign up on our team site - https://tltb.swimtopia.com/swim_meets

What to bring:

  • Swimmers need to bring 1-2 towels, some snacks/light lunch and water bottle/drinks to get them through the meet, a cover-up or dry clothes in some sort of bag. Remember to label all belongings with your name.
  • Only small coolers/lunch boxes that can fit under your seat are allowed. There is no room for large coolers.

Concessions & other vendors:

  • There is a smaller concession stand in the facility. However, we do not know the types and amount of food that will be available. Bring snacks in a small cooler (only small soft-sided coolers/lunch boxes are allowed). Remember you are in a stadium, so space is limited. For swimmers, pack them a few snacks and a water bottle to keep in their seating section.
  • There will be a merchandise store on site to get shirts and more. If you want to access the online ASA Championship store, go to this link: 2022 ASA Championship Meet Apparel - Click to view order form/options
  • River Oak Photography will be taking pictures. Click this link for more info and pricing: https://riveroakphotography.com/reserve-online/asa

General Helpful Hints:

  • If any circumstance arises that will cause you to not be on time – please call Julie (706) 206-3106 IMMEDIATELY.
  • Parents be aware that this meet will move quickly. Keep in mind that there is a girls pool and a boys pool, so the girls/boys events will run back to back, without the delay of the opposite gender. Spectators and bullpen parents will really need to pay attention.
  • Relays don’t run through the official ASA bullpen, they go straight to the blocks. Parent volunteers will need to take each set of swimmers to the correct end of the pool/s for relays.
  • 6 & Unders should be picked up from the Twin Lakes Bullpen following the backstroke events.
  • If you want a heat sheet, you need to print it and bring it. They will NOT have any for sale at the meet (as they have in years past).
  • Official results will be posted in the hallway at the meet. All parents need to check their swimmer’s results. If something seems wrong, contact Catherine or another coach immediately. Check the paper results in the hallway before you consult Catherine, though.
